Surat Flood Relief- Mumbai Responds
Surat was completely under water. As soon as the news was received the Mumbai Samaj Called an Emergency Meeting of the Managing Committee. It was decided that a team of Committee Members Visit Surat and make a on the spot study.
Within one hour the Committee members called up a few persons and collected approx Rs 100, 000/-. Here the Committee members worked on the principal of " Charity Begins At Home"
It was also decided to directly give help in the form of cash to the affected families. This was decided to do instead of giving any material.
A Team of Six Members personnally travelled To Surat on ----- and visited the affected families.
We had been in contact with members of the Surat Samaj and wish to thank them for making our visit most succesful. Without their support we would not have been able to finish our work due to curfew in the city
We visited the homes of 6 families and found that 3 families had water upto approx 8 to 10 feet and 3 families had water up to 4 to 5 feet in their homes.
We have given them collectivly Rs 60,000/-
Surat was in a mess and we have taken a few photographs. They are the photographs only of the areas we could visit and many have been taken from a moving car.
